Planes, Trains and Automobiles - Event Day Travel

We are under a week to go until the event and wanted to do a post and give some information about how to get to and from the event this year as train strikes are making it difficult. If you are looking for alternative transportation such as carpooling or need help planning your route we have both a Twitter and LinkedIn posts to help connect people. A quick reminder that the doors will open for registration at 8:00am with tea and coffee being served, and the welcome talk and keynote begin at 9:00am. It is not a talk you want to miss!

Venue Address:

Cheltenham Racecourse Evesham Road

Cheltenham

GL50 4SH

Getting to Cheltenham:

TRAINS

Unfortunately we understand that there is planned industrial action affecting travel into Cheltenham between Thursday 1st of June and Saturday 3rd of June.

At this time, it is possible to take a rail service into Cheltenham Spa or Gloucester Stations using Transport for Wales services. Transport for Wales services connect to Great Western Railway services at the Severn Tunnel Junction station. Very few trains are running due to the strike action, and they will be busier than usual.

To travel by train into the Cheltenham Spa station, you should arrive at Severn Tunnel Junction station for the 07:33 Departure train to Cheltenham Spa.

Unless strike action is cancelled, we do not recommend travelling into Cheltenham by train.

COACH

National Express currently offers coaches into Cheltenham (Arle Court) which appear to be running on the strike affected days. The earliest arrival into Cheltenham will arrive at Arle Court at 10:47, but this service does not run from all National Express locations.

Getting to the Racecourse:

TAXIS

You can order a taxi though Uber or you can order one through the local providers who can be reached at:

We cannot take responsibility for third party transport companies.

BUS

If you are coming from connecting from Gloucester:

We recommend taking the bus route 94 towards Cheltenham, stopping at Cheltenham, Imperial Square. The 94 Bus route runs consistently from the Gloucester Transport Hub (Bay K), where many National Express Coaches and National Rail services terminate.

Getting from Cheltenham Town Centre to the racecourse: To get to the Racecourse you will need to get the D bus route towards Bishops Cleeve and depart tat the Cheltenham Racecourse Park and Ride. You can find Saturday's time tables here. The first bus departs Clarence Street at 06:55 and runs roughly every 20 minutes.

At the end of the day please be aware that the last bus from the Racecourse Park and Ride stop is at 18:46. After that you will need to go to the Pitville Street stop about a 3-minute walk away which last pick up to go to town is just after midnight. Plenty of time to stay for the afterparty.

CARS, BIKES, ELECTRIC VEHICLES, and PARKING.

The racecourse is a 5-minute drive from Cheltenham Town Centre, or about a 15 minute drive off the J11 on the M5.

Cheltenham Racecourse has plenty of free on-site car parking available for this event, across multiple car parks. Alternatively, Cheltenham’s Arle Court Park & Ride (post code GL51 6SY) is signposted from the M5 at Junction 11. When you arrive you will pass through a security barricade with an attendant that points you in the right direction.

There are 52 secure bicycle parks next to The Centaur and Best Mate enclosure entrances to the Cheltenham Racecourse.
